Sonu Nigaam: The charmer-performer!

Sonu Nigaam is set to visit Australia soon. The charmer-performer from Mumbai will soon be in Australia for "CHARINDAA's WorldOnDemand-NAB Sensational Sonu Nigaam Tour of Australia, 2008"; the tour raises funds for the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Centre Appeal.

Today, Sonu Nigaam is the lead male singer in Bollywood. He is one of the most popular entertainers from Bollywood, the entertainment capital of India. He is equally renowned for his soulful and emotion-charged songs as well as his racy, fast songs.

He has worked with all the leading Bollywood music composers like A. R. Rahman, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, et al. Today, almost every Bollywood movie has at least one song sung by Sonu Nigaam.

Sonu Nigaam began his singing career as a precocious 3 year old, accompanying his father in singing songs immortalized by the legendary Mohammed Rafi!

It was with these Mohammed Rafi songs that Sonu Nigaam made an impact. Through his teenage years he took on many singing assignments and won many music competitions. At the young age of 18 Sonu Nigaam moved to Mumbai to break into the tough world of Bollywood music.

The initial years were hard and Sonu Nigaam started singing for the "Rafi Ki Yaadein" series. This meant that he was initially typecast as a Mohammed Rafi clone. After the initial years and a stint on TV hosting the "Sa Re Ga Ma" singing talent contest, his singing career suddenly took off.

His rendition of the hit song "sandese aate hain" for the movie "Border" brought him some well deserved kudos. His rendition of "yeh dil deewana" for the movie "Pardes" soon cemented his place as a singer of note.

His inimitable style and versatile voice coupled with the emotions he infused in his songs have made him a sought after artiste.

From the passion in the notes of "suraj hua madham", the haunting notes of "kal ho na ho", to the mischief in "ghum shuda" and the evergreen romance of "piyu bole", Sonu Nigaam has managed to bring out the essence of the emotions behind these and many other songs. His versatility has transformed many songs and he has worked with some of most talented music directors in the industry.

Other than Bollywood, Sonu Nigaam has also forayed into the movie industry in regional-languages. He is widely recognized for his clear enunciations of languages other than Hindi! He has delivered many hits in regional language cinema, including a hit song from the movie "Jeans" for which the music was composed by ace music director A. R. Rahman.

Sonu Nigaam has a massive and impressive list of awards to his credit. Some of his most popular songs such as "sandese aate hain", "kal ho na ho", "main hoon na", "suraj hua madham" and "saathiya" have been accorded with awards and accolades.

Sonu Nigaam has released a number of albums over the years. Some of these include "Mausam", "Sapnay Ki Baat", "Kismat", "Deewana", "Jaan", " Yaad", "Chanda Ki Doli" and "Colours of Love". All of these have been received well by fans and have won him awards.

Sonu Nigaam has also toured extensively and has performed to full houses in India and elsewhere. Soon audiences in Australia are in for a special treat because this immensely talented artiste is set to make an appearance in these shores!

Sonu Nigaam is to perform for CHARINDAA in Australia: Sydney (Friday 25 April), Melbourne (Saturday 26 April) and Adelaide (Sunday 27 April) over the ANZAC Day Long Weekend.

We look forward to a dazzling spectacle from this young charismatic singer, belting out some of the most popular numbers of recent years!
