As part of FIMA 2006, CHARINDAA presents Sanjay Subrahmanyan, one of the leading carnatic (South Indian classical) music vocalists today.

Sanjay's music is fresh, innovative and imaginative. He has a huge fan following in India and around the world. Apart from being credited with bringing youth back to concert auditoria through his vibrant music, Sanjay is also known for popularising Carnatic music via the Internet.

Sanjay has been acclaimed as one of the most serious exponents of Carnatic music in his generation. With the rare combination of conviction and idealism, he has given an innovative and interpretative quality to his sensual style of singing. He began learning music at the age of seven. Initial training was with V. Lakshminarayana (the father of renowned violinists L. Shankar and L. Subramaniam) on the violin. He was trained in vocal music by Rukmini Rajagopalan for a period of almost eight years, and then, by K. S. Krishnamurthi. Being a keen student of the art, he continues to learn and expand his repertoire. He is currently learning from S. R. D. Vaidhyanathan, a noted nadaswaram artiste.
Sanjay is a master of raga-s. He has an uncanny and unfailing sense of aesthetics and has a rich repertoire of classical compositions.
